Science

 Aim: To taste foods that are sweet,bitter,sour or salty.

equipment:

1. samples 1-9

2. Blindfold glasses

3. Recording chart

4. Ice cream stick taster

Method: 

1. Get safety glasses and make a blindfold

2. set up your chart and make sure that the person you are working with knows where to record your responses.

3. Using an ice-cream stick you will dip into the sample. Once the sample is on the stick you will taste it and tell your partner your responses.

4. There will be 2 answers  

5. At taste test one you need to hold your nose.

Answer 1, Is it sweet,sour,bitter,salty.Record it.

Answer 2,what do you this it is.Record it.

6. Repeat this for the next samples but you will only need to use your ice-cream stick taster for samples 1-4.

pH Levels

 Defiitionn: pH (potential of hydeogen) is a scale of acidity from 0 to 14 with 7 being neutral.


All solutions have a pH. Acid solutions,have lower pH. Alkaline solutions, have higher pH, Substances that aren't acidic or alkaline ( that is,neutral solutions) usually have a pH of 7. Acids have a pH that is less than 7. Alkaline have pH that is greater than 7.

Skittles

 Aim: To use water to extract the dye from skittles using the process of Chromatography.

Materials:

1. 5 skittles

2. Water

3. Petri dish

4. Beaker

Process:

Step 1. place the skittles in the petri dish around the edges

Step 2. Pour 100ml water gently into the middle of the petri dish 

Step 3. Wait ad see what happens

Questions:

Explain the findings?  Green was the slowest to mix up and the purple one was the fastest one.

Why do they bleed out at the same rate? Because they have sugar

Why do the colours not mix? because they haven't been mixed around.

Safety Rules In The Science Laboratory

 Safety Rules In The Science Laboratory

1. Do not touch or taste anything you are unsure of in the lab.

2. Do not run around or muck around.

3. Always wear safety glasses when you are doing an experiment.

4. When your in the science laboratory always wear appropriate shoes.

5. Listen to the teachers instructions.

6. When you enter the classroom do not push others.

7. When you leave make sure everything is back to where you took it from.

8. Do not leave anything on the floor.

Behavior Expectation For Science

Behavior Expectation for science.   

1. Line up outside the classroom.

2. come into the classroom quietly.

3. come into the classroom and show the teacher you are ready to learn by getting out your Chromebook and sitting quietly.

4. Do not run in the science laboratory.

5. Never ear or drink in a science laboratory.

6. When using fire you must wear safety glasses.

7.  Bags are to be stored under your table.
